A bit about us

We have an opening for two Veterinary Surgeons to join us on a permanent basis at our busy Greater Manchester Animal Hospital . If you are looking for some flexibility to fit in with your home life, we can offer great hours (35 hour working week) with roughly half of shifts finishing at 4pm!

Working hours : Day shifts 8am - 4pm

Float shift 10am - 6pm

Participating in a weekend rota, working 1 in 7 weekends, with time off in lieu.

At RSPCA we are invested in learning and growth so you will receive training in new skills such as forensics, cruelty case work and the implementation of shelter medicine. The opening also offers the opportunity to work closely with our Inspectorate and to be involved with new projects to improve animal welfare and make an impact on society wide protocols and policies.

About Greater Manchester Animal Hospital

The RSPCA Greater Manchester Animal Hospital, based in Salford, is a vibrant hospital which can accommodate up to 103 animals at any one time. Our expert team provides life saving veterinary care to thousands of animals rescued by RSPCA frontline officers and provide vital support to rescued animals being cared for at RSPCA centres. We do not provide routine treatment for people's pets.

What a day might look like for you

• Perform consultation and medical treatment of vulnerable animals according to RCVS standards.
• Oversee the rehabilitation of injured and ill strays and victims of cruelty and neglect.
• Undertake a wide range of surgical operations and procedures. This requires competence and experience across veterinary disciplines, including :
• Neutering
• Dentistry
• Shelter medicine
• Soft tissue surgery
• Diagnostic imaging
• Clinical pathology
• Undertake, on a roster basis, emergency and out of hours veterinary cover where the post holder will be in sole charge.
• Undertake off site work at RSPCA branches or centres approximately once a week which may involve shelter medicine checks and some cat neutering.
• Implementing RSPCA policies in regards to the re-homability of animals including decision making on individual cases.
• Vets support RSPCA Inspectors with cruelty cases. This is a very rewarding part of the job where you will make a huge difference to animals' lives that are in real need of help. Full training and support is given in this type of work.

Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles may need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
