An exciting career opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, pharmacy support worker to join the technical services team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

Currently housing 12 pharmaceutical isolators with another 3 due imminently within the cutting edge ATMP / clinical trial facility being developed within Weston Park, prospective candidates have a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of technical services in a large teaching hospital environment.

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the biggest NHS Trusts in the country, offering a range of both general and specialist hospital services.

We provide nationally commissioned services and expertise in support of Early Phase Clinical Trials, and we are part of a leading national network for the development of cancer drugs of the future (Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre).

You will follow a structured internal competency based aseptic training program to enable you to assist with providing the highest standard of pharmaceutical service to our patients and ward staff. The successful candidate will commence employment on AFC Band 2 rising to a AFC Band 3 upon completion of ‘In house’ competencies and appropriate level 2 qualification approved by The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Main duties of the job

  • To prepare documentation for batch medicinal products.
  • To prepare trays according to the worksheet filling in relevant manufacturer, batch number and expiry date.
  • To prepare, process and pack aseptically prepared medicinal products in accordance with approved worksheets and SOP’s.
  • To process returned support medication on the JAC computer system.
  • To undertake transfer disinfection of materials into and within the aseptic unit and the isolators.
  • Visually inspect / volume accuracy check batches prepared in the aseptic unit to ensure they are free of particulate contamination and meet the required standards.
  • To maintain adequate stocks both of drugs and disposables for the aseptic dispensing unit, sometimes in emergency situations – ordering using the computer system, checking stock levels against computer levels, stock rotation, and removal of any expired stock.

Please also note this vacancy is a training post so all applicants will start at Band 2 and upon completion of necessary skills and / or training will progress to Band 3

Qualifications

  • Education to GCSE at grade 4 / C or above in English and Maths or equivalent qualifications / experience
  • Have attained or be willing to work towards an appropriate Level 2 Qualification, approved by The General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Basic hygiene certificate
  • Experience

  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • NHS experience
  • Formal induction and competency based training in an aseptic or production environment
  • Skills & Knowledge

  • Basic computer keyboard skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team organising own workload
