- Monday to Thursday Centre-based delivery
- Friday Remote working (admin & planning), early finish at 12 : 30pm
A highly regarded and well-established training provider in Newcastle-under-Lyme is seeking a passionate and committed Maths Tutor to deliver Functional Skills and Entry Level Maths to small groups of young learners in a nurturing, supportive environment.

About the Role
As a Maths Tutor, you ll deliver tailored Maths sessions to learners aged who are working towards Functional Skills or Entry Level qualifications. Many of these learners may have faced previous barriers to learning, including Special Educational Needs (SEN), social disadvantage, or a lack of confidence in academic settings.
This role isn t just about curriculum delivery, it s about engagement, building trust, and creating a safe space where learners can rediscover a love for learning. You ll work closely with a small, dedicated team of tutors, teaching assistants, and managers to deliver high-quality, learner-focused provision.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, prepare and deliver Functional Skills and Entry Level Maths lessons tailored to individual needsCreate a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages learner participation and progressionSupport learners with varying abilities, including those with SEN or those classed as hard to reachDifferentiate resources and teaching methods to suit a range of learning stylesConduct regular assessment and tracking of learner progress, providing feedback and guidanceCollaborate with support staff and the wider teaching team to provide a wraparound learning experienceMaintain accurate records of learner attendance, progress and achievementsAttend team meetings, CPD sessions, and contribute to quality improvement initiativesWhat We re Looking For
This role will suit someone who is not only confident in their subject knowledge, but also genuinely passionate about supporting learners who may not have had a positive experience in mainstream education.
Essential Requirements
Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS, PGCE, CertEd, or equivalent)Proven experience delivering Functional Skills or Entry Level Maths in a post-16 or alternative education settingStrong classroom management and the ability to foster a calm, respectful learning environmentA learner-first mindset, with patience, empathy and adaptabilityStrong organisational, administrative, and communication skillsCommitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young peopleDesirable
Experience working with learners with SEN, EHCPs, or those from disadvantaged backgroundsKnowledge of EHCP reviews, learning support planning, and behaviour management techniquesFamiliarity with using digital tools to support learning and track progressWhat s On Offer
