We are seeking a Lead User Researcher, an expert practitioner who will influence and mentor others. This role involves working closely with teams to deeply understand people's lives, services, organizations, and outcomes within the public sector, ensuring a user-centred, evidence-based approach to service design and delivery.
Key responsibilities
- Lead one or more research projects, ensuring all team members and stakeholders share a clear understanding of successful outcomes.
- Define the scope and focus of research activities, aligning team efforts towards shared goals.
- Ensure a whole-team approach to user research, involving stakeholders and team members in research sessions.
- Plan and oversee research delivery, including defining objectives and leading analysis sessions.
- Collaborate with the Discipline head and peers to set best practice standards, adhering to GDPR, MRS, and GDS standards.
- Lead mixed-method research, producing actionable insights through reports, personas, and archetypes.
- Build relationships with clients and senior stakeholders, understanding their needs and providing strategic advice.
- Support business development through bid writing and proposal reviews.
- Manage and mentor a team of user researchers, supporting hiring and onboarding processes.
- Promote user-centred practices internally and externally, representing the community at events and in publications.
Skills, knowledge, and expertise
Proficient in research methodologies such as usability testing, contextual enquiry, rapid research, surveys, and evaluative research.Experience leading user research across GDS development stages (discovery, alpha, beta) is desirable.Experienced in agile research practices and coaching junior team members.Strong analytical skills to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights.Ability to communicate findings effectively to diverse audiences, including senior stakeholders.Advocate for research standards, including GDPR and MRS Code of Conduct.Promote inclusive research practices and accessible service design.Influence strategic and commercial decisions at the client level.Community and People Management
Support the Discipline head in guiding the research community within Made Tech.Foster a positive, inclusive, and open team culture.Assist in hiring, onboarding, and coaching research staff to support their professional growth.Benefits
