Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Forensic Intellectual and Neurodevelopmental Disorders (FIND) Service. The service comprises three teams : Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT), Forensic Personality Disorder Service (FPDS), and FIND. FIND is expanding in 2024 / 2025 and serves Devon (including Plymouth), Cornwall, and the Isles of Scilly. It provides care pathways for men and women with Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, and / or Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), aiming to optimize length of stay and the forensic care pathway, reducing out-of-area placements and efficiently utilizing South West network beds.

The service currently offers Signposting and advice (Tier 1), Consultation, training and supervision (Tier 2), Joint work, Care pathway management, and Access assessment (Tier 3). Post-expansion, the team will also manage a small caseload of Tier 4 Care co-ordination. The post-holder will join a motivated team, delivering a range of care within this structured system, with a capped caseload and acting as community Responsible Clinician. The role involves contributing to the growth and development of the service.

Main Duties

  • Providing clinical leadership within the FIND team.
  • Acting as Responsible Clinician for the Devon Tier 4 caseload.
  • Facilitating care pathway management, including advice, liaison, and consultation regarding the Devon and Cornwall Secure LDA cohort.
  • Attending weekly team and service meetings.
  • Participating in triaging and access assessments within the Community Forensic Service.
  • Engaging in consultation, training, and pathway advice.
  • Contributing to care planning and treatment formulation, emphasizing evidence-based practices.
  • Liaising with other services and agencies.
  • Implementing Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act procedures.
  • Collaborating in multidisciplinary, multi-agency, and partnership working.
  • Conducting forensic risk assessments, formulation, and mitigation strategies.
