Job Role : Design Manager – Water Non-Infrastructure

Location : Peterborough – Hybrid (days required can be discussed)

Rate : £500 - £550 / day

Salary : Negotiable depending on experience

About the Role :

Join the award-winning @one Alliance, a progressive and collaborative delivery partnership in the water sector. As a Design Manager, you’ll lead the development and delivery of innovative, value-driven design solutions for non-infrastructure water projects such as treatment works, pumping stations, and groundwater abstraction schemes.

You’ll oversee a multi-disciplinary design team, working closely with internal technical specialists and external suppliers to produce integrated, sustainable designs that support project affordability, reduce carbon, and enhance natural capital.

Key responsibilities include :

  • Leading the development and management of Engineering Project Plans (scope, schedule, cost, risk, and resources)
  • Managing the performance and development of a high-performing design team
  • Ensuring quality assurance and right-first-time design principles across all outputs
  • Coordinating internal discipline leads and external suppliers to deliver integrated solutions
  • Collaborating with project functions (e.g. planning, procurement, construction) to drive efficient delivery
  • Supporting programme milestones and driving design affordability and sustainability
  • Fulfilling CDM responsibilities, including design risk assessments and H&S documentation
  • Promoting innovation, digital design tools, and continuous improvement

About you :

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering or related field (preferred)
  • Chartered or working towards chartered status
  • Strong experience managing design delivery and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Confident in supplier coordination, design integration, and project risk management
  • Experience in a Design & Build environment (beneficial but not essential)
  • Committed to innovation, sustainability, and collaborative delivery
  • Effective leader with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
