Head of Mental Health

Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced mental health professional to lead and manage the Mental Health Care services at HMP Chelmsford. As the Head of Mental Health Care, you will be responsible for overseeing the strategic and clinical delivery of mental health services within the prison, ensuring high standards of care, patient safety, and compliance with relevant legislation and national guidance.

This is a pivotal leadership role requiring a strong clinical background, a collaborative management style, and a commitment to improving mental health outcomes in a challenging but highly rewarding environment.

Main Duties of the Job

• Provide direct line management, leadership, and support to junior colleagues
• Develop specialist practice-based clinical models of care
• Provide a range of quality services and interventions
• Responsible for inpatient ward rotas, considering resource efficiency, staff capacity, and service needs
• Support and undertake research, clinical audits, and evaluate the service as directed
• Demonstrate clinical leadership to junior staff, applying evidence-based nursing practice to ensure quality and outcome-driven care daily
