The primary role is to perform a variety of Service tasks, identify technical problems, and analyze through remote or on-site activities across various Service categories such as installation, commissioning, maintenance, repairs, engineering, consulting, advanced services, extensions, upgrades, retrofits, end-of-life services, and replacements for clients in the industrial and commercial sectors, including many blue-chip companies. The focus will be on ensuring the successful and safe execution of inspection and maintenance services, delivered on time, within budget, and to the client's satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation, inspection, and maintenance of switchgear and transformers up to 33kV.
  • Manage inspection and maintenance reports in databases.
  • Installation of protection relays and control cabling.
  • Ensure project and service work productivity.
  • Participate in a 24 / 7 on-call standby rota.
  • Take responsibility for the delivery, collection, and control of insulating oil using Oil Management System.
  • Contribute to tendering processes for service work and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with Electrical Safety Management System.
  • Apply safety rules, safe practices, and environmental responsibilities; report unsafe practices and incidents.
  • Identify and procure materials and parts as specified.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures, identify potential issues, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide technical support to the team and customers.
  • Lead, manage, and develop the Substation Service Team apprentices.
  • Identify client requirements, liaise with internal and external suppliers, and coordinate with sales, supply chain, project management, planning, engineering, and commercial teams.
  • Contribute to the Substation Service budget in terms of orders, revenue, and EBIT.
  • Develop and obtain governance approval (risk review) in accordance with company policies.
  • Travel within the UK as required by the business.

Customer Focus

  • Interact with and support contracted customers, meeting their expectations of the service product.
  • Ensure legal compliance for customers.
  • Assist with sales activities to customers.
  • Your Background

  • Experienced and qualified engineer / technician with over 5 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of third-party MV products.
  • Understanding of Permit to Work processes.
  • Strong background in power sector service and maintenance.
  • Completed basic electrical switchgear and transformer maintenance courses.
  • City & Guilds 236 or 232 certificate or equivalent NVQ.
  • Full driving license.
  • Experience in HV, MV, and LV cable jointing.
  • IOSH Managing Safety certification.
  • Safety passport and CSCS card holder.
