Job Title : SEMH Support Assistant – Secondary Schools

Location : Newcastle-upon-Tyne

Salary : £–£110 per day (paid weekly via PAYE)

Start Date : Immediate

Contract Type : Full-time, Term-Time Only

We’re looking for brilliant SEMH Support Assistants to join secondary schools across Newcastle—supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who need more than just a lesson plan. They need someone who listens, who stays steady, and who believes in them, even on the tough days.

What the role looks like :

Supporting students 1 : 1 and in small groups to build trust and emotional regulation

Working closely with SENCOs, pastoral teams, and teaching staff

Using trauma-informed approaches to reduce anxiety and improve engagement

Helping students stay on track emotionally, socially, and academically

What we’re looking for :

Experience working with young people with SEMH or behavioural needs

A resilient, empathetic, and non-judgemental approach

Confidence to handle challenging behaviour with calmness and care

Bonus if you’ve worked in PRUs, APs or similar settings

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
