Job description

At Plumpton College, we have recently embarked on an exciting GBP11m Agri-Food investment programme and are looking to recruit enthusiastic and inspiring lecturers to join our highly successful Agri-Food and Environment division.

This role requires an excellent lecturer to deliver effective teaching, learning, assessment, and support to our agriculture students, helping them maximize their potential and achieve success, further study, and employment. You will inspire and motivate students and contribute significantly to our successful programmes.

Job Purpose

To deliver highly effective teaching, learning, assessment, and support to students, enabling them to maximize their potential and make positive progress towards success, further study, and employment. To inspire and motivate students and contribute to our growing programmes that meet industry needs and attract students.

Duties and responsibilities of the job

1. Teaching, Learning and Assessment

  • Plan, prepare, teach, assess, report, and monitor lessons to ensure high standards. Share good practice and celebrate successes.
  • Conduct initial assessments, adapt teaching accordingly, and monitor progress, reporting to the Programme Manager.
  • Create opportunities for students to develop English and maths skills.
  • Promote high attendance and complete registers promptly.
  • Use schemes of work and lesson plans aligned with college standards.
  • Incorporate modern technology in TLA to enhance learning, e.g., PoL, specialist software, VLE standards.
  • Implement assessment plans for effective student progress.
  • Set exams, homework, and extension activities, providing timely feedback.
  • Assess coursework and provide constructive feedback to support progression.
  • Monitor individual progress and take action to improve outcomes.

2. Tutoring

  • Use assessments to create student profiles and support personal tutoring.
  • Engage as a personal tutor, participate in student interviews, induction, and support activities.
  • Conduct tutorials, review targets, and record progress.
  • Support students in developing personal, employment, and study skills, including careers guidance.
  • Use data to support individual progress and employ the college's value-added system.
  • Prepare reports, contribute to parents' evenings, and liaise with employers.
  • 3. Quality Improvement

  • Attend team meetings, share good practice, and support improvements.
  • Participate in student feedback activities and use feedback for improvement.
  • Maintain standards and quality through college systems.
  • Contribute to programme reviews and development, including external quality processes.
  • 4. Continuous Professional Development

  • Participate in staff development, maintain a PDP, and attend mandatory training.
  • 5. Other responsibilities and duties

  • Participate in recruitment, open days, and promotional events.
  • Work with employers and stakeholders to develop and deliver curriculum.
  • Support the college's strategic plan and ensure equality and safeguarding policies are followed.
  • Maintain student destination data for self-assessment and quality improvement.
