The Role
Why the role exists and overall responsibility
An exciting opportunity has become available within Fresh Futures’ Brian Jackson College Team. We are seeking an enthusiastic Art Teacher to join our team, working within KS3 / KS4 alternative provision. This role is to work across both provisions in Heckmondwike and Huddersfield.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in inspiring and educating pupils with social, emotional and mental health challenges (SEMH) within the field of visual arts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in art education, a deep understanding of various artistic techniques and media, and the ability to foster creativity and self-expression in pupils of all skill levels whilst supporting our organisation’s mission.
Main activities
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with curriculum standards.
- Teach a variety of art techniques including drawing, painting, sculpture, and crafts.
- Encourage pupils to express themselves through art and explore different artistic styles and cultures.
- Assess pupil progress and provide constructive feedback.
- Organise art exhibitions, pupil showcases and participate in school-wide events.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organised classroom environment.
- Stay current with developments in art education and integrate new techniques and technologies.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support cross-curricular learning.
Knowledge, training and experience required
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.Valid teaching certification. NQT’s welcome and those in training.Previous teaching experience, preferably in a school / alternative provision setting with a strong understanding of SEND.Portfolio demonstrating artistic and instructional skills.Excellent communication, organisational, and classroom management skills.Passion for teaching and inspiring young artists.Designs engaging, relevant, and practical learning experiences.Finds creative ways to motivate and inspire pupils who may be disengaged.Key personal characteristics
