Senior Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager

Location : Manchester, North West

Sector : Infrastructure – Rail

Contract Type : Permanent

Salary : Competitive, dependent on experience

Overview : An established, multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager to join their growing infrastructure team, working on a major rail project. This is a key hire offering strong progression prospects and exposure to high-profile schemes. While rail experience is beneficial, candidates from wider infrastructure sectors such as highways, water, utilities, and general civil engineering will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Leading cost management across all stages of project delivery, including feasibility, pre-contract, and post-contract phases.
  • Preparing and developing detailed cost plans and estimates.
  • Advising clients on procurement strategies and tender processes.
  • Managing and interpreting NEC contracts.
  • Supporting the development of commercial strategies and reporting procedures.
  • Providing commercial insight and risk management to ensure project delivery within budget.
  • Liaising with stakeholders including clients, design teams, contractors, and project managers.

Required Experience :

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Cost Manager within infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Experience in pre-contract services and cost planning.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with internal teams and clients.
  • Chartered or working towards MRICS / MCIOB / APM (desirable but not essential).
  • Backgrounds Considered : Consultancy (PQS) or Main contractor / Tier 1 contractor experience. Rail sector experience is preferred, but those from highways, utilities, water, or general civils are encouraged to apply.
