Temporary Litigation Solicitor - Grade 7 (£43,603.64 - £47,864.52)

West Lothian Council is one of Scotland's most successful local authorities and is based in Livingston.

Legal Services provides comprehensive legal and committee services to the council and comprises four teams - Property / Planning, Litigation, Licensing, and Committee Services.

These posts are within the Litigation Team. They are varied, challenging, and rewarding roles within small and busy teams. As a Temporary Litigation Solicitor, you will undertake a varied workload of general litigation and advisory work supporting the functions of the Local Authority, including social work, housing, education, employment, contentious contract / commercial property, debt recovery, and other areas as assigned. Your role is to assist the Chief Solicitor in ensuring the delivery of a quality legal service that meets client requirements.

The post-holders are also expected to support the development and delivery of training for colleagues and clients as necessary. Depending on the role, you may be required to act as Clerk or Legal Advisor to regulatory and other forums.

The successful candidates will possess excellent communication and teamwork skills. They will deliver solution-focused advice to council officers and elected members in a clear and concise manner, demonstrate a commitment to client service excellence, and adopt a flexible approach to changing demands and priorities.

These are full-time temporary posts; however, part-time job sharing may be considered.
