Job Title : Head of MFL / MFL Lead (French & Spanish) – Leadership Scale L4–L8 Location : Braintree, Essex (CM7) Salary : Leadership Scale L4–L8 (£52,414 to £61,162 per annum) Start Date : September 2025 Contract Type : Full Time, Permanent Job Description : We are seeking an exceptional head of MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) to lead the French and Spanish departments at a highly regarded secondary school in Braintree from September. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced hod MFL or ambitious MFL lead looking to step up to a senior role. As head of MFL, you will lead the strategic direction of French and Spanish across all Key Stages. You will inspire colleagues, develop innovative teaching approaches, and foster a love of languages across the school. The role is offered on the Leadership Scale (L4–L8). Key Responsibilities :

• Provide strategic leadership as head of MFL / hod MFL, driving excellence in French and Spanish
• Lead and manage the MFL team as MFL lead, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning
• Oversee curriculum development and assessment across the MFL department
• Inspire a culture of high achievement in both French and Spanish
• Represent the MFL faculty at whole-school leadership level as head of MFL faculty
• Promote innovative language teaching practices and develop enrichment opportunities
• Line-manage MFL staff and support professional development
• Work collaboratively with other subject leaders to enhance cross-curricular links
• Champion a love of languages as head of French and Spanish Ideal Candidate :
• QTS / Qualified Teacher Status is essential
• Proven experience as a head of MFL, hod MFL, MFL lead, or readiness to step into a leadership role
• Strong track record of raising achievement in French and / or Spanish
• Ability to teach either French or Spanish to A-Level desirable
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
