About the role

Are you ready to take the next step in your engineering career? We're looking for a proactive Workshop Manager to support and deputise for the Engineering Manager in driving performance across our largest bus depot in the country. In this key leadership role, you'll manage all aspects of engineering operations – from fleet and environmental standards to ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies. You'll be the go-to person for task planning, workload preparation, and matching resource to demand. You'll play a vital role in motivating and engaging our front-line teams– all while embedding best practice throughour divisional governance framework.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and manage the depot engineering team in line with First Bus policies, procedures, and legislation.
  • Ensure engineering teams are competently trained and meet establishment requirements.
  • Support the development of a high-performing, engaged, and continuously improving engineering team.
  • Plan and manage fleet maintenance and servicing to meet statutory and company standards.
  • Oversee plant and equipment maintenance, including management of external maintenance contracts.
  • Ensure accurate engineering records, including fleet and environmental performance.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with legal and company standards.
  • Drive improvements in engineering and environmental performance, focusing on reducing lost miles and breakdowns.
  • Deliver performance improvement plans and control engineering costs within budget.
  • Foster effective workingrelationships with trade unions and across operational teams.

Salary : Up to £55,000

About you

  • You must be a UK resident and provide proof of right to work
  • You must have at minimum an NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Qualification, or City & Guilds level 1 & 2 in the required field.
  • You will ideally have experience of working in a busy engineering environment, and worked on either buses, coaches, HGVs, or large commercial vehicles.
  • You will have a clean UK driver's licence.
