Role Title : Waste Treatment Design Engineer – Plant Equipment

Location : Flexible hybrid Warrington, Derby or Manchester

We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Waste Treatment Design Engineer – Plant Equipment.

The Waste Treatment Design Engineer – Plant Equipment will be a key member of the Miscellaneous Plant Equipment team, responsible for delivering a range of waste treatment products into the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) programme. This role involves full product ownership—working closely with stakeholders to define and develop requirements, applying modularisation and standardisation principles, supporting sourcing activities, overseeing product development, conducting governance reviews, and managing contract delivery to ensure successful integration into the SMR.

Key selection criteria :

Product Development

  • Demonstrable experience / knowledge of design, manufacture, operation, and maintenance of components involved waste treatment such as : Ion Exchange, Reverse Osmosis, Evaporation, Delay Beds, Degassers, Filtration and Cementation & Storage.
  • Willingness to expand experience to development of products outside of the HVAC scope.
  • Knowledgeable in requirements capture, development, validation and verification.
  • The candidate will need to be demonstrate working with external suppliers to achieve product development.
  • The Design Engineer would be capable of technically checking the work of suppliers and giving feedback.

Ability to communicate and build relationships

  • The candidate must effectively communicate and build strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers, customers, and regulators. This includes leading supplier interactions, managing delivery challenges, and presenting complex cross-functional topics to diverse stakeholders.
  • Programme development & delivery

  • The candidate will lead the development and management of engineering programmes within their scope, ensuring timely product delivery through effective supply chain coordination. They will work closely with the Manager – Plant Equipment to navigate ambiguity, provide direction, and manage risks with appropriate mitigation strategies. The role also includes supporting supply chain strategy and vendor selection.

  • The role requires the candidate to have the ability to work with multiple stakeholders internally and externally, create a supporting working environment, and communicate up and down the business hierarchy.
  • The candidate will ideally have experience dealing with stakeholders internally and externally and be capable of bringing together and leading technical discussions with third parties.
  • The candidate willdemonstrate actively working towards Institute recognition, also hold a relevant technical degree level qualification or HND.

    Pay and benefits

    We anticipate paying a salary of between £40,000 - £52,500 DOE plus : -

  • Bonus - Performance related target opportunity 12.5%
  • Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days.
