Advanced Biomedical Scientist Training and Quality Management

The post holder will act as an experienced Advanced HPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to provide continuous and comprehensive Pathology service to support effective diagnosis and treatment of patients. They will assist in delivering a high-quality, cost-effective clinical service and contribute to the development of the service in line with departmental objectives.

The post holder will provide training and quality management expertise in Cellular Pathology across the NCA. This includes working flexibly across NCA sites. The role involves training staff (competencies, registration, and specialist portfolio candidates) and managing quality. The post holder will be a senior team member, ensuring good governance and supporting the quality management system.

Cellular Pathology services for NCA are based in Salford and Oldham. You will mainly be based at Salford but will support quality and training across NCA.

The Cellular Pathology Department processes and reports approximately 98,000 histology requests annually, covering Neurology, Dermatology, Breast, Head & Neck, Gynaecology, Gastroenterology, Urology, and Respiratory. Additionally, there are 10,000 diagnostic cytology and Andrology services.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage and coordinate daily activities for staff training and quality management system.
  • Train, develop, and assess staff competencies.
  • Analyze and interpret results; ensure the standard and quality of results.
  • Participate in technical activities requiring advanced and specialist technical knowledge.
  • Process biomedical specimens requiring advanced technical skills.
  • Proactively manage the throughput of the Cellular Pathology department.
  • Maintain HCPC registration through ongoing professional development.
  • Serve as training manager for the department.
  • Deputise for the Cellular Pathology Operations Manager when required.
