About the Role We are looking for an experienced and motivated Financial Controller to take full ownership of our financial operations. Reporting directly to the Finance Director and Managing Director, you will lead financial reporting, control processes, and compliance functions. This is a critical, high-impact role suited to a confident professional who can combine strong technical skills with commercial insight. You will support strategic decision-making and ensure that robust financial management underpins all aspects of business performance. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all core accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger management, and bank reconciliations
- Produce accurate monthly management accounts with detailed variance analysis and insightful commentary for senior leadership
- Lead the preparation and submission of annual statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP and other relevant standards
- Act as the primary contact for external auditors and manage the timely and successful completion of year-end audits
- Drive the company’s budgeting and forecasting cycles, partnering with department heads to ensure accuracy and strategic alignment
- Monitor cash flow, working capital requirements, and treasury activities to safeguard financial stability
- Design, implement, and maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and reporting procedures
- Provide strategic financial insight to support key business initiatives, investment decisions, and long-term planning
- Lead and develop the finance team to ensure high levels of technical competence, motivation, and performance
- Ensure full compliance with HMRC regulations, VAT requirements, and other statutory obligations
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and implement systems improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy Key Requirements
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or equivalent), with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience
- Demonstrated success in a Financial Controller or senior finance leadership role
- Strong technical accounting expertise and a thorough understanding of financial regulations and standards
- Proven experience in managing and mentoring a finance team
- High-level analytical and financial modelling skills with strong attention to detail
- Advanced Excel skills and strong working knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or similar)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex financial matters to non-financial stakeholders
- Commercially astute, proactive, and results-driven, with the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Desirable Experience
- Background in a relevant industry such as business consultancy, professional services, or high-growth SMEs
- Experience supporting or leading ERP implementations or financial systems transformation projects
- Prior experience in a growth-focused, entrepreneurial organisation with an evolving finance function What We Offer
